James provided the preface (pictured below) to W. M. Fletcher’s account of the history of Cambridge University’s private members club, the Pitt Club, in 1935. Fun fact: as those familiar with Cambridge may know, the ground floor of the Pitt Club’s headquarters is currently home to the most oddly grandiose branch of Pizza Express you will ever set foot in.
The front free endpaper contains the following inscription:
“The pious and immortal memory
