Welcome to Antiquarian Ghosts, a site dedicated to the medievalist, antiquary and father of the modern ghost story, M. R. James.
The original intention behind this site was to create a place to catalogue and showcase my growing collection of James’ published works, but I subsequently decided to expand this into a more general space for information on James, reproductions of his ghost stories, and a selection of original articles on his life, works, and various Jamesian topics.
This is far from the first or only site to be dedicated to M. R. James, but I hope it will bring some enjoyment to those with an interest in his life and work. As time goes on I will endeavour to expand the content of the site, and naturally the Book Collection section will continue to grow as I acquire further titles.
For those new to the world of M. R. James, a very warm welcome. If you wish to explore James’ life and works further, I would highly recommend the other sites listed on my links page as a starting point.
