The Journal of Hellenic Studies, Volume IX (The Society for the Promotion of Hellenic Studies, 1888)

This volume of The Journal of Hellenic Studies contains four contributions by M. R. James, the published record of his sole archaeological excavation undertaken between 1887-1888 in Cyprus, where he was accompanied by D. G. Hogarth and E. A. Gardner. The expedition is mentioned in Eton & King’s on pages 191-194, although as James states “it would be cruel to unload on these pages details which have been chronicled in their proper places”. The details mentioned can instead be found within this journal volume. M. R. James’ contributions to the wider section “Excavations in Cyprus, 1887-88. Paphos, Leontari, Amargetti” are as follows:

“The Mesoréa”, p. 152-158

“On the History and Antiquities of Paphos”, p. 175-192

“Inscriptions of Kuklia and Amargetti” (with E. A. Gardner and D. G. Hogarth), p. 225-263

“Tombs” (with D. G. Hogarth), p. 264-271
