Casting the Runes is a wonderful new Edwardian pen-and-paper investigative roleplaying game based upon the stories of M. R. James. Created by Scottish writer (and former Cantabrigian) Paul StJohn Mackintosh, and published by The Design Mechanism, Casting the Runes is based on Robin Laws’ acclaimed GUMSHOE system, which places research and investigation at the forefront of the game’s mechanics. The book itself contains detailed information on the setting, professions for characters, and all the rules necessary for creating your own games, as well as two pre-built introductory adventures.
This particular copy is one of the limited “deluxe” editions, which feature a green leatherette cover, ribbon page markers and a higher quality paper stock. Purchase of the physical edition of the game also includes a free PDF copy (at least as of the time of writing).
